35 Years in the Business!
Nearly 35 years ago, Doug Thorson started repping with a line of homemade candles. What started as a little sideline to pick up a few extra bucks in college has grown into a full-time gift repping business for Doug & Sherry Thorson.
 In 1971 Doug had a part-time side business making candles in the basement of his rented home and selling them on the road. Two years later, Doug had established a temporary booth on the first floor of the old downtown Minneapolis Gift Mart building in the warehouse district. But, he quickly began to see that candles were not going to be enough.
"I realized that I was going to starve to death if I didn't get some other things to sell," Doug remembers.
He set about expanding the business, taking on other lines. By the time the current Minneapolis Gift Mart opened in 1974, Doug Thorson Sales had expanded to the point that it needed a permanent showroom.
In 2009, Doug Thorson Sales celebrates its 35th anniversary. From homemade candles in the basement, Doug Thorson Sales has grown into a regional company, serving twelve states through two permanent showrooms and a web shopping cart.
